‘A citizen of (city), a (human) of impeccable adherence to the (national) ideal, whom I met soon after arriving in the city the first time in April (year), told me: "In October (year) I was here in my nice apartment in peaceful (city) when the (aggressors) invaded (neighbouring country), and I remember when the evening news showed footage of the destruction of (city), just a couple of ( ) miles away, I thought to myself, 'Oh, how horrible,' and switched the channel. So how can I be indignant if someone in (country X) or (country Y) or (country Z) sees the killing taking place here day after day on their evening news and says, 'Oh, how horrible,' and looks for another program. It’s normal. It's human." Wherever people feel safe—this was (their) bitter, self-accusing point—they will be indifferent.’ (Sontag 2003 / Ross 2025)
What happens if I make that building mine?
From a very young age I started „collecting" buildings and properties. Blinking and twitching my eyes to only view my new found item.
In my work, I present my personal vision of Brussels, focusing in on the city's variety of constructions and building blocks. It aims to puzzle and pleasure your eyes, playing on the mind game of my perception.

Integrates and Negotiates is an exploration into the fear and shame we feel when we move our bodies. As children, we are carefree about gender 'rules' and societal expectations. However, as we grow older, we attach judgement. Like most teenagers, I lost the feeling of pride and self assurance I once had. I was embarrassed, hid my identity and started to shame myself and others internally. Allowing the body to express itself naturally is essential, yet so much of it is interwoven with shame. We follow the same ideologies, swallowing up our own liberty.
Through photographing other men, I became intrigued to turn that gaze inwards. By navigating the discomfort of self-reflection, I find new ways of looking at myself and my body. In front of the camera, I expose myself for anyone curious to engage in this act of self-observation.

The archive stems from the images my grandfather took during the time he had to serve for the Germans during second world war. This selection is a result of my first interaction with the archive and reflects on the ambiguity of conviction. The archive established a ground for my practice and reappears as an ongoing thread throughout my work.
